Rotary Sponsors Sherborne Area Roadsafe Campaign

The Rotary Club of Sherborne Castles has sponsored a road sign as part of the Sherborne Area Roadsafe Campaign. Road safety messages designed by local children have been developed into road signs, which are being erected at key sites near local schools.

The Club’s sponsorship has not only helped developed these signs, but also contributed to the repainting of road markings, carrying out a safety assessment at each school and identifying safe crossing areas.

This grassroots campaign is a great example where community organisations, teachers, parents and businesses have acted together to improve road safety for children. Headteacher of the Gryphon Nicki Edwards says “Sherborne Area Roadsafe can make a positive difference to the safety of more than 3,000 children in the Sherborne Area”.

As the final part of this project there is a Road Safety Event and Awards Evening on the 17th October 2019, 4:30-6:30pm at the Gryphon School. The aims of the event are to recognise the winning designs, provide an opportunity for road safety education and acknowledge the support of the sponsors. Teams from Dorset Police and Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service will be in attendance and there will be activities and information stalls, as well as awards for the children who have designed the winning safety signs. (The designs not chosen will also be displayed around the hall).  Everyone’s invited to this event including Schoolchildren and their parents, local Community and Business Sponsors, Mayor and Town Councillors, representatives from the Police and Crime Commissioner and Dorset Highways, PTA members and teachers.
