The 2018 Oscar winner for best Foreign Language Film tells the story of Marina, a transgender woman who works as a waitress and moonlights as a nightclub singer. Marina is devastated by the untimely death of her companion Orlando. From then on everything is called into question: her involvement in Orlando’s death, their unconventional relationship and, above all, her right to mourn her beloved deceased.
Sexuality and gender issues are front and centre in this impressive and heartfelt film, blending seamlessly with the universal themes of dignity, bigotry and loss.
“Shocking and enraging, rapturous and restorative…This movie is a knockout.” Hollywood Reporter.
