Over £650 was raised for Children in Need at a recent Coffee & Cake event at Tinney’s Youth Club. The well attended event was organised by the Rotary Club of Sherborne Castles, together with young people and members of various U3A user groups from the Youth Club.
Generous donations of baked goods ensured there was an excellent selection of cake and biscuits on offer in addition to tasty soups, sandwiches and cheese scones for lunch.
There was also an interesting story behind an additional donation of £70 given by Mr & Mrs Tresidder, which demonstrates that Rotary is a worldwide organisation. While visiting their son in the USA, who is a member of the Rotary Club of Mariposa, Yosemite, they were given £35 worth of British currency from a Rotarian who had recently had a holiday in England. The Rotarian asked them to give it to charity, upon their return to the UK. Mr & Mrs Tresidder generously decided to match fund it and saw the Coffee & Cake event as an ideal way to donate.
It was also an opportunity to present a cheque for £1,000, which was part of the funds raised at this year’s Historic Vehicle Rally, to Tinney’s Youth Leaders Angela Suter and Kade Masters.
Many Rotarians volunteered to help on the day; some in roles that were not familiar to them – see below!
